Glamnuptials: La Bosse des Noces (We were on TV)

Being a blogger for Weddingbee has definitely made me feel special / sort of celebrity-ish at times (but seriously I'm just a normal gal who blogged about her wedding planning) and it was an honor to share it with all of yous. Some bees have been recognized in public on several occasions (crazy I know!) So when Mr.Flamingo and I took part of a wedding tv show called La Bosse des Noces, well that definetly an interesting experience.

A couple of weeks ago, I was flipping the channels on the television and came face to face... with me. Yup, our wedding was airing again on television. Kinda neat I know. I know you have been waiting to view this video for quite some time, but trying to find a way to upload the video took longer than I anticipated. But I can finally share it with you now. So for those of you who understand french - enjoy!

Though it may not look like it, but I was extremely nervous. Its not every day you have cameras in your face and someone prepping your makeup. A hint ? Notice how many times I say "Glamour" lol ...

The show was about helping us out with issues we came across while planning our wedding. They helped us out with decor elements and our place card chandelier tree. What's great is that they even featured Wes Jones of Film Jones because they found the whole 8mm video really intriguing... plus that whole segment is in english  :)

Our wedding was also on the web with a detailed description of the episode (for canadians only), list of stores where they purchased the items for our wedding and DIY explanations. Check it out here (if you can read in french) Our wedding will be playing for the next 5 years (re-runs obviously) So the "Hey weren't you on TV?" remark will be common, but i can get use to that...LOL But seriously we loved our experience and would do it again in a heartbeat.

So that's it... I'm officially done my wedding recaps. Sniff sniff. I hope you enjoyed my blogging as Mrs.Flamingo. Now this is not an official goodbye, because I will stick around the hive and maybe blog a few more things ;) but my journey as a bee is finished. I've been around for 2 years exactly... and its my time to sign-off and let the spotlight shine on the new bees.

You can visit me on Glamour This! my personal blog. Or better yet, follow even more my randomness on twitter @blushink

Best of luck to everyone, and thank you for reading/listening to my rambling :)
Now and forever,
Flamingo

Honesty Time

I've mentioned before that Mr.Flamingo and I have a very honest relationship and I love that. Before we started officially going out (FYI - Mr.F had been asking my out on a date for over 8 months) he composed a song for me. He wrote the song because I wasn't certain if I liked Mr.Flamingo enough to date him. I guess he was trying to win me over... well it worked.

Every Thursday (don't ask me why we chose that day) but we would have a session of Honesty Time. Basically it was a time allotted to talk about everything throughout the week and the rule was we needed to be 110% honest. It wasn't pretty all the time, but because we did this we can be completely honest with each other and I find it is the recipe to a great relationship.

Mr.Flamingo composed the tune and the lyrics. He originally wrote it in French and a good friend translated it in English (because he knew I was English and I guess he wanted to impress me). He is the one singing and playing guitar. Please remember (Mr.F is french and doesn't speak English very well.)

Honesty Time
written and composed by Mr.Flamingo

Silent screams run through my head
Invisible tear drown in my face
I want to escape with you
Its such a mystery how things
May come together in this life
and we always wonder why

And then you came in my world
You give the best out of me
I couldn't ask for more you see
I don't need to search anymore

Chorus
Like a shadow in the rain
I disappear when the light fades away
Like a ghost you want to leave
I keep on coming back to you
I'll give away my soul for you
Until the day your love is true
Honesty Time

Your voice whispers to me and said
I get so lonely when you go away
Just stay a little while
The smell of your skin, is like a paradise breeze
The touch of your lips delight my day
I can't believe your here with me

And then you came in my world
You give the best out of me
I couldn't ask for more you see
I don't need to search anymore

Chorus (2x)
Like a shadow in the rain
I disappear when the light fades away
Like a ghost you want to leave
I keep on coming back to you
I'll give away my soul for you
Until the day your love is true
Honesty Time

Its a given that when I heard the song tears were falling down my face. No one has ever written me a song before and this one was so beautiful. I don't know if Mr.F is planning on composing another one for the wedding. I would love that as a wedding gift (wink wink)

Have you ever gotten a song written just for you? Was it good?

The Proposal

Ever since I was a little girl, I envision the perfect proposal done by my prince charming. I thought that the question might be asked with the typical down on one knee, diamond ring in the champagne glass or something a little more creative like announcing it on the monitor at a Habs game. All these options would of been an excellent choice and I would of been extremely happy regardless...

Almost three years ago, after we came home from a family party on Christmas Eve, we decided to open our gifts at the stroke of midnight. Why the stroke of midnight? obviously for the whole "magic" aspect of Christmas, and because it was our first real Christmas together. We started dating 2 weeks prior to the 25th of the previous year, so in my eyes it didn't really count as the first Christmas together.

After opening all our presents, I noticed there was a little red and gold box left. I was completely clueless of what was about to happen. My sweetie grabbed the box and then proposed to me, and of course I accepted. But nope, there was no getting down on one knee, no champagne to celebrate, nothing. At the moment I was ecstatic about the whole idea of getting married, but at the same time I was a little disappointed that the proposal wasn't near what I had imagined it would be.

My ring looks something like this ; diamonds are a little smaller.

I found out later on that M.Flamingo asked my father for his permission first before proposing. I thought that was a nice gesture of his part and by doing that he definitely gained points in the whole proposal thing. The ring was exactly what I wanted, so his good taste deserved some points too. Now, we simply laugh about the whole thing... but who knows, maybe he'll make up by proposing the real way when we renew our vows. We will know only in 5 years from now.

I was wondering if any of yous have had any disappointing proposals? If so, I would love to hear about it. I just hope I'm not the only one.

How the flamingos met

In my introductory post, I pretty much talked about why M. Flamingo and I considered ourselves to be the pink, one legged (majority of the time) long beak bird. But before I continue, I just wanted to point out that I am the first Montreal Bee. Happy to be representing! =)

The flamingos in Virginia beach 2007.

So now its time to meet the flamingos:
During my graphic design studies, I worked as a part time cashier at a modern furniture store. I often saw people come in give their CV and leave right after. But this day was different. This guy came in, gave his CV but didn't want to leave. He wanted to meet the big boss and wanted an interview on the spot. Talk about being sure of yourself. Either way, I called the manager at the time, and I don't know how he did it, but he was hired! Oh and this is M. Flamingo by the way.

As soon as he started he was on my back. For a good 8 months, day after day he would ask me to go to the movies with him and I every time I would decline his offer... I didn't really like M.Flamingo at the time, actually he even drove me nuts. He was all talk and no show and I didn't like guys like that... Not to mean but he didn't interest me.

One night during the week in October, I was working until 9 pm. It was a cold rainy night and I felt like going to the movies after my work shift... I called all my friends but no one was available to go. So when M. Flamingo made his daily pit-stop at my cash, I mentioned that I felt like seeing a movie and that no one could make it. Not even considering what I had just said, he left. Soon enough he came back and offered to go with me. At that moment, I said to myself why not give it a try and at the same time, he would stop inviting me.

There was a rule though when it came to watching movies. I would only watch the movie in its original soundtrack (majority being English) and M. Flamingo (speaks french). He was fine with my famous rule but asked me if he could choose the movie. I was willing to compromise a little so I was okay with that... if only I knew. We went to the movie theater, M.Flamingo bought the tickets and when I looked down, I read: Chainsaw Massacre! Talk about a first movie.

After that night, regardless of our first movie attempt, we kept on going to see movies. I started to know the real M. Flamingo; a sweet kind, good-hearted person - not the all show, I know everything guy I got to know at work. We kept seeing each other for over 2 months and we officially started dating: in December 2003. That's how our story began... Who knew I would marry the guy who a couple of years back couldn't stand being next to... isn't it odd, how things happen?
