Glamuptials: Giving our gifts

When we started planning the wedding, Mr.Flamingo and I decided not give each other gifts and save that money for something else. At first it seemed to be a good idea, until I found the perfect gift for Mr. F.... I knew he would be extremely happy about my gift chose and honestly I didn't expect anything in return. I got him an original Superman Script signed by the cast of the first movie.

When I gave Mr.Flamingo his gift (ahead of time) he literally had a permanent smile on his face and it made me so happy. I was glad he liked the gift (especially since he is such a difficult person) but then again, you can't really go wrong with Superman.... right?

On the day of the wedding I got a wonderful surprise. Mr.Flamingo got me a gift too. He actually composed a song for me. Even though he didn't sing it live at the wedding, he actually went in a studio to record it. How sweet is that.

I had no clue he did this for me (though apparently everyone in my family did) and later in the evening, he grabbed the microphone and announced my surprised. We danced to the song and the song was beautiful. I wasn't able to tell you what he was saying in the song, because I was crying too much ... but I listen to it the next day and it was simply perfect. This was the best gift ever. I'm so lucky to have him...

Here is the song he composed (now remember Mr.Flamingo is french - his singing in english isn't perfect)

Here is a snippet of the lyrics:
You told me yes I do
took me into your arms
make me a better man
now I belong to you
maybe your true soul mate
you taught me how to love
Did you get a special song for your wedding?

Bridesmaid Gifts

Gift giving is always fun, but its extremely hard when all your Bridesmaids have different personality and style. I still wanted to give them the same gift, so that they would all have something in common and representative of the wedding.

I personally had a really hard time figuring out what I would give them, but after months of searching I finally found something I think they all would like. Since pink was an important color in the wedding I decided to have a pink themed gift.

I got the girls a bag of goodies. Inside: personalized pink silk jewelry rolls. I thought this was a classic gift that can be used to secure all their jewelry. Youngest sister flamingo, doesn't wear jewelry, but she has piercings galore. I figured one day, she will use it, or in the meantime will store her body jewelry in it.

The second part of their gift, was one Pink 2GB SanDisk Cruzer Gator. I thought this was perfect for them to keep all their photos and important documents. I know I use Flash cards all the time, I just hope they will too.
I also added a journal for each girl. Where I wrote on the first page a personalized note. I mostly thanked them for being part of my wedding and sharing in our special day. It was nice seeing them open their gifts and get all teary eyed when reading the message.

For my MOH I got her a little something more. Since she was stressing out more than me, I got her a gift certificate at a beautiful local spa - perfect to relax, and after helping me out with the wedding... a spa seemed really nice.

They seemed really happy with their gifts... I hope they use them well. Did you give your bridesmaid a themed gift?

The book of our love

Mr. Flamingo and I thought it would be nice to offer our parents a nice thank you gift for supporting us during the whole wedding process. So when it came time to think about our parents gift, it was a very obvious choice. The book of our our love : a photo album.

Our photographer will give us the copyrights and all our wedding images (hi-resolution) on a DVD. Being a graphic designer, I didn't want to spend money on a photo album, when I could use my talents and make my own. After searching the net for various software, the one I found to be the most complete is BookSmart from Blurb.com

I think this will be a great project to do and the program seems quite complete. You can personalize everything! From the page layout, colors and even the binding. I will be adding small meaningful texts in the book as well, like the speech to my dad, the lyrics of our love song, our vows and some little extras. It will be an awesome memento... well i hope so.

Has anyone used Booksmart for their wedding album? What's your feedback on this software and what little extras did you add to your album?
